*** MEET outside the Jefferson Drive (not Independence Ave) side entrance to the Freer Gallery (not the Sackler). Check the map if you need orientation. ***
This event will include:
* a Smithsonian museum exhibition of Yellow Mountain: China's Ever-Changing Landscape.
* 30-minute movie in Chinese about the contemporary spiritual inspiration of Yellow Mountain.
* Optional get-together afterwards if there is interest, with discussion in Mandarin
For centuries, artists have been inspired by the landscape of China's Yellow Mountain. Internationally renowned artist Yang Fudong expands that perspective in the contemporary medium of video with his five-part series Seven Intellectuals in the Bamboo Forest, which is based on a famous Chinese tale. Yang follows seven Chinese youths in modern times who are in a permanent state of contemplation atop the mist-shrouded peaks of Yellow Mountain.
If you all behave at the Freer, we will find something social to do afterwards.
