中秋 Sept 14 is the Chinese traditional holiday "Mid-Autumn Festival" 中秋 Elaine will bring some moon cakes (月餅 This event is for ALL levels of Mandarin speakers and learners, from Beginning (currently studying Chinese) to native/fluent speakers. Newcomers are always welcome! When you come please introduce yourself to any of the organizers so that we can help you get comfortable with the group. $1.00 per event fee for all attendees serves as our dues. We also ask each person to order food or drink from the restaurant since we use their space. The food is good and prices are reasonable. We encourage people to speak in Chinese or be actively involved in developing fluency in Mandarin Chinese. An earthquake struck Sichuan province on May 12, 2008, with aftershocks causing massive amounts of damage to property and infrastructure, and inflicting over 65,000 deaths and unaccounted bodies which will never be recovered. Students studies came to a terrible and unexpected end, fathers and mothers will never return home, and children most tragically of all, will never get a chance at life. Think of the many more injured that are still in desperate need of our help. We'll be contributing to the Angel Mother of Sichuan relief fund for children administered by China Red Cross Association. Donations will be applied to the dinner cost, and the entire remainder of the money goes to the Angel Mother of Sichuan relief fund for children to help those children who effected by the Sichuan earth quake. New Fortune has also graciously donated a portion of the dinner cost to the relief fund. The Coordination Council of Chinese-American Associations (CCCAA), umbrella organization is the fiscal sponsor and is a 501(3) non-profit organization. The entire ticket cost is tax deductible.
