You are invited to a special event to observe the Mid-Autumn / Moon Festival!
This year we will have this occasion on Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Grand Ballroom of the Stamp Student Union, University of Maryland, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. There will be snacks, including Chinese goodies and moon cake!! We're also organizing traditional Chinese cultural performances as well. We will be inviting several groups, including Washington DC Chinese Language and Culture Meet Up, and students who went to China this past summer with Chinese Bridge Summer Tour. We hope that some of them will prepare some thoughts about their trip to China, and share their casual remarks with us during the afternoon. This event is sponsorship by Confucius Institute at University of Maryland. This Meetup is intended for the Beginner Mandarin speaker who can carry the most basic conversation, best if you know at least 100 words. A no-pressure, friendly group whose goal is to take it to the next level. Engage, learn, and teach! Theme: SPORTS. Talk about your favorite team, player, exciting matches and competitions. Bring: On an index card, write in Chinese characters and pinyin 2 or 3 words to teach your language partner. Books, dictionary, pre-written script. Reading cheat sheets OK, whatever it takes. Pictures, photographs to make the conversation interesting. Bring: Your own namebadge, although we have reusable namebadges that Richard contributed (thank you, Richard) Optional: Wear your favorite team's jersey, tee shirt, sports clothing Do: Come extra early to have a delicious lunch before we start the meeting. Members are there as early as noon. The meeting will start at 1:30pm - 4:30pm. At the half way point, we we have a short social break and people can get food and drink. We will rotate language partners every 20 minutes. Don't: Don't sign up and not show up, you deny another person from participating, plus namebadges were pre-made for everyone so it was a disappointment when there are no-shows. Goal: Come have fun, make friends, refresh or advance your speaking level Participate, contribute!
