What are your favorite Chinese dishes and foods?
Mmmmm... Noodles, dumplings, vegetable dishes, Cantonese and Sichuanese foods, savory meat dishes, hot pot, steamed buns, anything with red bean paste... This question is making me hungry!
How would you describe your level of Chinese? (Eg it's my native language OR I don't speak it OR I learned some dialect from my family but little Mandarin, OR I can speak a few words, simple conversations, etc.)
I'd characterize my proficiency as "advanced beginner" (about 1 yr. college-level study). I still need to work at hearing tones consistently, expanding vocabulary, etc.
What kind of events and activities would you be interested in? What would you like to do at our events?
Anything, really. Cultural activities connected to the DC Chinese community would be especially nice.
What could this group provide for you that no other Meetup could?
The chance to speak Mandarin with other DC enthusiasts.
Where did you grow up? How did you learn Chinese? Tell us your story.
I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Traveled in China with a Chinese classmate in college, loved the culture, curious about the language, decided to try learning it. I need to put in some more concerted effort to make that actually happen...
