Introduction

I've studied overseas and made a number of Chinese/Taiwanese friends in London, UK and D.C. I'm interested in learning Mandarin and working in East Asia someday.

What are your favorite Chinese dishes and foods?

Ginger soup, wheat noodles, cashew chicken, rice desserts

How would you describe your level of Chinese? (Eg it's my native language OR I don't speak it OR I learned some dialect from my family but little Mandarin, OR I can speak a few words, simple conversations, etc.)

Simple conversations, beginner-intermediate. Can read basic signs.

What kind of events and activities would you be interested in? What would you like to do at our events?

I'm all for smaller groups breaking off and meeting up more informally/frequently for coffee. Causal events mostly with the occasional trip somewhere or cultural event.

What could this group provide for you that no other Meetup could?

An opportunity to practice Chinese in the real world in a regular basis (not in books or classes).

Where did you grow up? How did you learn Chinese? Tell us your story.

I grew up in Colorado but became interested in Chinese in high school when a visiting teacher came from Beijing. Since then I've made many Chinese friends and traveled to Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Singapore) where many ethnic Chinese live.
