SUNSHINE SATURDAYS CLASSES

Chinese Crafts (4 sessions)
Saturdays, October 3-October 31 (no class October 10)
1pm-2:30pm
$10 for 4 sessions (members and non-members)
Ages 5-10

The Chinese Students’ Association (CSA) of Boston College hopes to help foster the cultural development of children by providing a variety of programs relating to Chinese heritage: Chinese kites, fans, yo-yo, and more! With the support from the volunteers of CSA, we would like to establish a relationship with the children – to offer mentorship and guidance, but above all a friendship in a fun and educational environment.

Painting for Kids (5 sessions)
Saturdays, October 17-November 21 (no class November 7)
11am-12:15pm
$20 for 5 sessions (members) / $30 (non-members)
Ages 6-11

A class for children of any level, learning how to use paints and create masterpieces every week! Instructor Phi Nguyen is a teacher at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School. Space is limited. Registration is required.

How to Draw Comics (5 sessions)
Saturdays, October 17-November 21 (no class November 7)
11am-12:15pm
$20 for 5 sessions (members) / $30 (non-members)
Ages 9-11

Children will learn how to draw figures, and start to create their own story. Instructor Melody Wan is pursuing a degree in illustration from the Massachusetts College of Art; she speaks English and Cantonese. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Art: Drawing and More (8 sessions)
Saturdays, October 17-December 19 (no class November 7 and November 28)

$30 for 8 sessions (members) / $55 (non-members)
Ages 11-14

A class for beginner-level students to introduce basic techniques for drawing and some painting. Instructor Szu-Chieh Yun is an arts instructor at Artists for Humanity and a student at the Massachusetts College of Art; she speaks English and Mandarin. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Beginner Piano (ongoing)
Saturdays (no class November 7 and November 28)

Ages 7-12

Students will get familiar with basic note reading, posture, and technique, and start to express themselves through music! Instructor Jon Quang speaks English, Vietnamese, and Spanish. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Cooking for Kids (4 sessions)
Every other Saturday (October 3, 17, 31, November 14)
11am-12pm
$10 for 4 sessions (members) / $25 (non-members)
Ages 8-11

The Dong Meets Si cooking classes will instruct students on Eastern (Asian) and Western cooking recipes and techniques. In addition, the class will integrate students’ creativity into the cooking process, as we will be making some classic recipes from both sides of the globe, but with a twist! Children will learn how to make tasty and easy food, and learn to think about exactly what they eat at every meal. Instructor Christina Ng has taught in Asia, and is now in her first year of law school. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Hosted by the Citi Performing Arts Center, enjoy an evening of theatre games, improvisation and performing arts fun. Dinner will be served and space is limited. Sessions will fill up on a first-come, first-served basis. Come to one or come to all! This course is conducted in English. Registration is required.

The style is Vinyasa flow, where the instructor cues the participants to move from one pose to another on an inhale or exhale. The sequence of postures in each class is designed to help the participants control breath, build strength, increase flexibility and learn to focus. Gentle hands-on adjustment will be used to support the participants in the best alignment so they can safely move into a deeper pose. Practitioners of all levels are welcome. All classes are structured to be progressive.

Join longtime opera educator David Collins as he teaches us the basics of opera appreciation. Included with the price of this program is a free ticket to a matinee Sunday performance of Tancredi at the historic Cutler Majestic Theater in Chinatown. Mr. Collins will give a pre-show presentation to further enhance the listening experience for workshop attendees. Co-sponsored by Opera Boston. This course is conducted in English.
