the people who speak it. this is a bit of a cop-out answer, but it's true. i don't know much about culture, less about chinese culture specifically. but i know the friends of mine that speak it! and they are my favorite.

leisure. i have a lot of friends who speak it. also there's a lot of computer programming stuff in mandarin.

How long have you studied Chinese in US?
haphazardly asking people to tell me phrases in mandarin for years. but ... probably about as good as someone who's taken an actual class for a day.
