I hope to meet more Cantonese speakers and people of similar culture and traditions. Meeting new people is always a plus!
I am fluent in Cantonese, but I am probably missing a large chunk of vocabulary since I emigrated from Hong Kong since the age of 5.
HK films and food! I'd go for Dim Sum whenever I get the chance and whenever I could afford it. Old Cantonese proverbs are always fun to learn, especially the funnier ones about dating and marriage!
I use Cantonese to speak to my family, and it's helpful when watching HK films. I use my leisure time nowadays to learn new Chinese characters, especially those from the Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set.
I was born in HK and lived there for only 5 years before moving to the US. As far as I remember, I barely learned a thing!
I haven't studied formally until I went to UCSD and only took basic Mandarin for 2 quarters. I grew up bilingual speaking to my family in Canto and English with my friends. Though learning a bit of Mandarin was helpful, I rather learn Canto.
