Since we already have RSVP's for the April meetup, we will keep Shanghai City as our restaurant. For the next meetup, does anyone have a suggestion for a different restaurant? I heard that a Vietnamese restaurant called "Phuong Trang" (Convoy St) is pretty good...we can try that next time if everyone is up for it. Aside from that one, I'd still like to take suggestions so please post them up!

7330 Clairemont Mesa Bl San Diego, CA 92117 Taiwanese Snack style food (Xiao Chi). Inside of 99 ranch. I usually order the soup noodles (dan zai mien?) and add lots of white pepper (hu jiao fen). Dumpling Inn 4619 Convoy St San Diego, CA 92111 As the name says, they have Chinese dumplings. Lots of other good dishes as well. Get the pork dumplings (xiao leng bao). Lucky House 4367 Convoy St San Diego, CA 92111 Never been there, but heard its good... |

Jim, I went to Shanghai City 老正興 (P:lao zheng xing) this weekend and I was pleasantly surprised at the restaurant. The food is quite good... though the restaurant is old school 70's Chinese restaurant den. I came prepared expecting to use my horrible Putonghua but found most of the crew to be Cantonese speaking.... therefore, I escaped an opportunity to use putonghua. Thanks for the suggestion!
Tea Station on Claremont Mesa, a Taiwanese Cafe (across from 99 Market) may be a good choice. The food is not as good as the one in San Gabriel, but is ok. Offers a relaxed and trendy meeting place. The outdoor tables may be a good place to meet and talk.... Perhaps it's pointless for me to post to the group anymore, since next weekend is the last one I will spend in SD until next summer. but my 2 cents on 168 and Dumpling Inn... 168 is pretty ghetto... it's kind of dirty and dingy and the food... well.. it is what it is... Mmmm Yoso seems to have the same opinion. http://mmm-yoso.typep... Dumpling Inn... it's popular and has lines for a wait. It's ok, but not that great. Shanghai city has better food for certain. It's been over a year since I last ate there so my memory is fuzzy. Mmmm-yoso gives it quite a negative review. My sis went there a few weeks ago and dindn't have too many kind words either. I've heard nothing but good about Ba Ren... will definitely check it out this coming weekend. Hopefully will have time check out as the last meal in San Diego. for the most part, one can't go wrong going with MMMM.. Yoso's suggestions... I've eaten at quite a few of his reviewed restaurants (either intentionally or un-intentionally) and have the same opinons across the board. cheers http://mmm-yoso.typep... |
