Announcing a new event for The San Diego Chinese Language Meetup Group!

What: Chinese Sunday Brunch with International/ESL Group

When: Sunday, August 13, 11:30 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Event Description: Tokyo Jim from the International/ESL group is going to Shanghai City for Chinese Brunch. Being the Chinese group, we should probably help them out with ordering from a Chinese menu. So if you can read the menu or know the cuisine, go for brunch and help out the hungry. If you can't go, but know the menu, send your translations to Tokyo Jim so he can help get the food on the table.

Here's Tokyo Jim's original message:

When most people think of Chinese breakfast, they think of "dim sum" (AKA "yum cha"), the traditional morning / mid-day meal of Guangdong province, and by extension, Hong Kong.

But once you're outside of Cantonese territory, all bets are off. Chinese food can vary quite a bit from province to province and even village to village, and this means breakfasts do too.

On the weekends, Shanghai City serves a good variety of breakfast items from non-Cantonese locales. Come experience many of these dishes as we sample as many as we can (the bigger the group, the more variety).

The catch is that the menu (see http://tokyojim.com/C.... ) is only in Chinese, so we hope to have some Chinese join us to help with the ordering.

You can call me on the day of the event on 858-558-1234.

Andy,

THANK YOU for the translations. They are great. I'm sure there may be more questions as to what the types of food is. We can use this message board to discuss if anyone has questions about a particular item. Now that I see the pinyin, I have a much better idea and can describe the items.

Hope you can join the group for brunch. Be sure to look for Tokyo Jim - he is organizing this one.

Thanks again,

Connie

Thanks so much Andy. That's great!

Even China-born friends of mine have been clueless as to half the menu. This will help a lot. I would like to eventually give an English version to the restaurant (unless they prefer the laowai to just order the sweet & sour pork).
